If you think a meditation retreat is all about relaxation and “Zen” bliss, you’d be surprised. This was an intensive, transformative experience designed to challenge the mind, body, and spirit.
Last week, I attended Dr. Joe Dispenza’s Weeklong Retreat in Nashville. The Discipline of Change
Each day began at 6:00 AM with meditation and lasted until almost 8:00 PM. On Friday, we were in the ballroom at the Gaylord Hotel by 4:00 AM for a pineal gland meditation that went until 9:20 AM.
Dr. Joe warned us: “You’ll hate me at times.” He wasn’t exaggerating. As a two-time attendee, I knew the rigor—and the rewards—of pushing through fatigue, discomfort, and resistance.
He often reminded us:
“To change is to be greater than your feelings. If you can’t think greater than your feelings, you will never change.”
Change requires being challenged. And nobody left Nashville unchanged.
Lessons Beyond the Material World
Most of us live trapped in the material world, limited by what our five senses show us. But science confirms: the visible light spectrum is just a sliver of reality. The immaterial—the spiritual, the energetic, the unseen—holds infinitely more information.
That’s why I meditate: to access the immaterial world, the energy and possibilities beyond matter. The great masters understood this. They invested their energy in possibilities, not limitations. And so must we if we want to create our envisioned future.
Be Your Own Hero
One phrase echoed through the retreat:
“Be your own hero. Overcome yourself. Create your own future.”
Often, being your own hero is about one thing—showing up. Especially when it’s hardest. At your lowest point, if you persist, that’s when breakthroughs happen.
As Dr. Joe reminded us: “The Divine always matches your energy.”
When I was at my lowest—lying in a hospital bed, wrestling with fear and uncertainty—I doubled down on meditation. It calmed me, reconnected me, and gave me strength to keep going.
Your Word is Law
Dr. Joe also challenged us to honor our agreements—with ourselves and with others.
“Your word is LAW!”
If you say you’ll do something, follow through. Do it. Every time you honor your own word, you reinforce your worthiness and power to create change.
People get stuck because they live in the familiar past or predictable future. They don’t envision something new. Without a vision, they wake up knowing exactly how the day will go—unchanged and uninspired.
The first step to change? Decide. Stop being a victim of circumstances, time, or environment. Start envisioning the future you want, then align your energy and actions to bring it into reality.
Moving Forward
Next week, I’ll share how to step into a new, envisioned future—and how to empower yourself to achieve far beyond what you think possible.
Until then, I’ll leave you with this challenge:
Call to Action
- Challenge yourself. Do the thing you fear. The death of fear is certain.
- Challenge your team. Growth occurs only when people are pushed beyond their comfort zone.
- Challenge your business. Create a culture that thrives on possibility, not excuses.

Growth demands Strategic Discipline.
During one of the deep meditations at the Nashville Retreat, a memory surfaced from my 7th-grade basketball days—a comment my dad made after practice. His words carried a lesson that still shapes me today and point to a state of recognition we all must embrace if we want to align our thoughts, actions, and feelings with SOURCE.
Next week, I’ll share my father’s simple but profound advice to his young, impressionable son: “Don’t be giddy.”
Building an enduring great organization requires disciplined people, disciplined thought, disciplined action, superior results, producing a distinctive impact on the world.
Discipline sustains momentum over a long period of time, laying the foundations for lasting endurance.
A winning habit starts with 3 Strategic Disciplines: Priority, Metrics, and Meeting Rhythms. Forecasting, accountability, individual, and team performance improve dramatically.
Meeting Rhythms achieve a disciplined focus on performance metrics to drive growth.
