CANCER CURED - CHAPTER V – Survival vs Elevated Emotions, Isolation Provides Focus

Written by Douglas A Wick | Tue, Jan 14, 2025

My journey through Acute Myeloid Leukemia continues with Chapter V from CANCER CURED – The Most Powerful Force in the Universe

(Previous segments of CANCER CURED are available here:  CANCER CURED BOOK -to read these from the beginning you’ll need to scroll through to the bottom to find CANCER CURED – What do You Feed?, which is the first in the series.)

This is Chapter V – The Most Powerful Force in the Universe. This segment is the 2nd section, Survival, and Elevated Emotions.

“People who had such experiences usually agreed that deep within each of us lie goodness unimagined, wisdom, music, talents of every variety; joy, peace, humility, love, and spirituality. Hidden away in each individual is a vast gold mine but, as yet, only a few puny and thread-like veins have been discovered. . .. Our fault lies, not in our lack of talent or potentials, but in our refusal to believe that it exists. Only after we can accept such a belief and have thus gained enough confidence to look within ourselves can our development go full steam ahead.”

Isolation Provides Focus.

Time alone allowed me to read, meditate, and focus on how to get better. Yes, I was interrupted constantly. This became annoying, especially the first week. Over time, as my stay extended, I got to know the nurses better, many showed exceptional patience and care with me, several asking when it would be best to come in and take my temperature, administer medication, or other vitals required for their work.

Getting awakened at 4 AM or earlier every day doesn’t seem to fit with the intention of hospital care, helping the patient relax and get better. These nurses were required to make rounds during the night to check on their patient’s health, preventing issues from occurring. Being in the hospital for 7 months you get familiar with them. Once you get to know them, you become a person, and they begin to treat you as such rather than their job, or a routine they’re required to follow.

Several asked me at the last check-in before falling asleep when I would prefer to be disturbed. They’d modify their schedule to take me last or first on their rounds, depending on my preference. There’s nothing worse to me than being awoken at 5 or 6 AM when you plan on getting up in 30 minutes. I could usually fall asleep again no matter what time I awake, but I’d much prefer to be woken up earlier in the morning, so I have a longer time to fall asleep before getting up.

The signs I put up on my door allowed for focus. My meetings with my customers were sacred. The staff soon learned, if they were going to need something that day, they’d better schedule it, or I’d be inaccessible.

Chemo treatments were always scheduled so I’d know when to expect them. Many of the other interruptions diminished simply due to my schedule and the signs on my door. The diabetes advisor, chaplain, and any other attendant who stopped by would often not gain access to me, since I was occupied in some fashion; working, meditating, or inaccessible.

I recall not seeing the hospital chaplain for several weeks. When she finally found me one Friday afternoon, she said, “Wow, I’ve finally caught you! Every time I’ve come to see you the past several weeks, your door is closed with a sign on the door saying not to disturb you!”

Looking back, the first week was haphazard, unstructured, and chaotic. From that week forward, I became very structured, even systematic in my schedule at the hospital. As much as I possibly could, I controlled my daily routine, which allowed me to remain focused on my goals, maintaining a level of dignity and respect over my time.

Survival or Elevated Emotions

In Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, Chapter 13 Create a New Mind for Your New Future, provides differences in our two states of the mind and body.

There’s a lot of wisdom in how we think and feel here. Dispensa shares this to help you accept you can change, and how to go about changing yourself.

The bottom line is: When our behaviors match our intentions, when our actions are equal to our thoughts when our minds and our bodies are working together, when our words and our deeds are aligned … there is an immense power behind any individual.

When one holds a dream independent of the environment, that’s greatness. Overcoming the environment is inextricably linked with overcoming the body and time.

Unless we have a vision for our future, we will always default to our familiar past or predictable future. That’s because our mind and our body are either conditioned or habitual.

I expected a miracle. Did I give thought to how it would happen? Of course, there were times when my mind moved in this direction. As quickly as possible I would divert my attention back from how it might happen to how I would feel after it happened.   My focus on meditation became steeped in how I would feel after I was free from cancer. How it would happen was not my concern. How I would feel, the place I would be, my family, Michelle, the joy I would feel, this became my obsession.

Watch the movie, Gandhi. You can see the calm demeanor Ben Kingsley portrays the character as having.

In Gandhi’s case, he was not swayed by what was happening in his outer world (environment), he didn’t worry about how he felt and what would happen to him (body), and he didn’t care how long it would take to realize the dream of freedom (time). He simply knew that all these elements would sooner or later bend to his intentions.

For all the giants in history, their ideas were thriving in the laboratory of their minds to such an extent to their brains, it was as though the experience had already happened.

This is what is the key. Indeed, this is the process I was failing at in my meditation and prayer.

If you’re a Christian, you’re familiar with Mark 11:24, "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, `Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

Survival or Elevated Emotions

In Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, Dr. Joe Dispensa provides what I needed to focus my attention on: Step 7, creating and rehearsing. Elevated emotions constitute the energy required to create the new personality I desired, to manifest and produce the miracle of healing.

It meant concentrating on elevated emotions during this step. The most powerful emotion I could manifest was my deep, unconditional love for Michelle. At the time there was no boundary to how much I loved her. If ever I believed there was a perfect woman or human being, it was her. She proved to be the perfect person to project my love toward and to peak my elevated emotion.

There is no more powerful emotion than love, unless as this chart points out, it’s MORE LOVE!

Whether you believe in God or not, there is a Creator of this world, universe, and the design of our cosmic universe, even our bodies, and how we can function without even thinking about it, provides evidence our Creator loves us more than we love ourselves.

The world, our universe is created in LOVE. We fail to realize this and with it the POWER, it provides us to heal, achieve, and live a productive life.

Most of us, when we cut our finger, bandage it, forget about it, and it’s healed.

Other than possibly washing it to prevent infection, and wrapping it to protect it, our part in the healing is small. Love (Our Creator) takes care of the rest. This is the great Power of Love we must tap into.

I confess I didn’t realize the power of love, nor the miracle-providing capacity it gives! Frankly, to this day, I have not been able to produce a result as awesome, incredible, or as unbelievable as the one God provided to cure my cancer.

Yet I know it is available to me, to you, and to anyone else who can feel, immerse yourself in it, and release it to achieve whatever you wish.

Can you change who you are by thinking alone?

I am convinced I could. In fact, I did!
